Nightmare Detective 2 (2008)

Starring: Ryuhei Matsuda
Director: Shin'ya Tsukamoto

Premise:
A man has the abilities to enter other people's dreams. A teen suffering from nightmares of a ghost killing her friends are coming true. She find out about the man's ability and asks for help.

My Take:
Tsukamoto is one of my favorite directors so I will watch anything by him. And this has all the usual traits of his movies. This sequel expands a bit on the first movie with more of the main character's back story. It's a unique ghost story that some how misses the mark for me.

The Dead Inside (2011)

Starring: Sarah Lassez, Dustin Fasching
Director: Travis Betz

Premise:
A wedding photographer and an author of zombie novels are both burned out with their jobs. The yearn for something better. When one starts showing signs of a mental disorder things get more complicated. Too bad it is actually a ghost possessing her.

My Take:
It's a clever little movie where the songs dont take away from the story. The two leads are great and carry the film. It does take awhile for things to get going. If you looking for something a tad different this might be worth a watch.

An anthology film from different directors with each short revolving around the letter of the alphabet.

Purge: Anarchy (2014)

Starring: Frank Gifford, Kiele Sanchez, Carmen Ejogo, Zoe Soul, Zach Gilford, Michael K. Williams
Director: James DeMonaco

Premise:
The different groups of people end up on the streets on the night of the annual Purge: a cop wanting revenge on the man who killed his son, a couple who's car breaks down, and a mother and daughter who must flee their apartment once it goes under attack. They come together to try and survive the night.

My Take:
Much like the first movie I thought the story could have explored this idea far more than it does. They scratch the surface of a bigger cause and reason behind the Purge but ultimately leaves it alone. By the end it was watchable but also forgettable. Personally, I am done with the series of films.

Man Seeking Woman, Season 1 (2015)

Starring: Jay Barachel, Eric Andre, Britt Lower, Mark McKinney, Maya Erskine, Robin Duke

Premise:
A man in his late 20's attempts to recover from heartbreak after getting out of a long term relationship.

My Take:
The strength of the series is characters taking the strange things going on around them as fact and truth. Every weird ass thing is treated like an everyday occurrence from demons to old Hitler dating an Asian, to time travel to alien takeover, to trolls to magic to Hell vacation spot and much, much more. The core of the series is a man trying to get over his ex after they break up from a long term relationship. All the horror tropes thrown in make the series a unique one.

Starring: Sarah-Jane Redmond, Michael Eklund
Director: Damon Vignale

Premise:
A police detective enters the world of the occult after interrogating a man who claims he knows about a high stakes game of death.

A good slow burning thriller where nothing is quite as it seems. It's a solid script which takes the viewer on a ride. An outstanding performances by the cast.

V/H/S/ Viral (2104)

Starring: Gary Bales, Emilia Ares Zoryan, Jusstin Welborn, Emmy Argo, Nick Blanco
Director: Marcel Sarmiento, Gregg Bishop, Nacho Vigalondo, Aaron Moorehead, Justin Benson,

Premise: An anthology of horror stories.

"Vicious Circles" - The wrap around episode where a teenagers chased down a van who kidnapped his girlfriend and finds a cyber nightmare.

"Dante the Great" - A magician gets his power from an evil cloak

"Parallel Monsters" - A scientist opens a doorway to a parallel universe which seems identical to his own. The truth is far more frightening.

"Bonestorm" - A group of skateboarding teens must fight black magic and zombies when they go skating in the wrong park.

My Take:
I enjoy this sequel better than the last one. The only tale I didn't really care for was the wrap around. The twist in "Parallel Monsters" is one that as to be seen. "Bonestorm" fells like a live action video game. And "Dante" was my favorite of the bunch.

Starring: Robert Englund, Fiona Dourif, Thomas Dekker, Corey Taylor, Angelina Armani
Director: Robert Hall

Premise:
A doctor creates a device to help people overcome their fears. In the process he opens a gateway allowing a demon to cross over.

My Take:
This movie is a sequel to a web series, which I never saw. It's an interesting concept with decent effects but over all is lacking and slow.

Houses October Built (2014)

Starring: Mikey Roe, Bobby Roe, Brandy Schaefer, Zack Andrews, Jeff Larson
Director: Bobby Roe

Premise:
A group sets out to find the scariest haunted house attractions in America. While they document their findings they soon realize maybe the scares are seeking them out.

My Take:
It's a unique story full of scares. The found footage style works best when it working as an actual documentary interviewing workers of these attractions and patrons otherwise it falls into the usual trappings which hurt a bit. Still, it's a flick worth watching.

Premise:
Three roommates get a delivery from a weed dealer on New Year's Eve. Soon it becomes clear the stranger knows about their secrets and wont leave until they confess.

My Take:
David Asavanond gives a tour de force performance and is worth the price of admission alone. The rest of the cast, the direction, and story are all solid as well.

Expedition Unknown, Season 1 (2015)

Starring: Josh Gates

Premise:
An archaeologist tries to help solve some of the world's greatest mysteries.

My Take:
A very similar show to Josh Gates' previous show, Destination Truth, except instead of cryptids this time around its long standing mysteries (where did Amelia Earheart crash, why did the Mayan civilization vanished, ect.). It is an interesting program which often sheds light on the subject.

Director: Adrian Garcia Bogliano

Premise:
A retired Vietnam vet finds a werewolf is killing off residents of the retirement community he lives in.

My Take:
I enjoyed the the original premise. The practical special effects were a pleasant surprise. The entire cast delivers the goods. However, with all these solid offerings there is something which I cant place that holds the film back. Still it's very enjoyable

A group of people try to survive in a world over ran by zombies.

Season 5 has the group deal with being trapped in Terminus, facing another group of survivors in an Atlanta hospital, and finding possible salvation in a gated community outside of Washington DC.

My Take:
The season seemed fulled of extra gore and heightened drama. Several favorites meet their demise and solid, new characters are introduced.

Terror Is A Man (1959)

Starring: Fracnis Lederer, Great Thyssen, Richard Derr
Director: Gerardo de Leon

Premise:
A scientist plays with genetics and slowly turns a man into a panther.

My Take:
The movie is really boring and when the big reveal happens, it is a disappointment. Grant it, the flick is over fifty years old but there is no excuse for poor writing.
