Shut In (2106)

Starring: Naomi Watts, Oliver Platt, Charlie Heaton
Director: Farren Blackburn

Premise:
While being sent away to boarding school, a troubled teen and his father are in an accident. The accident kills the father and severely injures the boy. He stays at home but needs round the clock care. The mother, who is a former child psychiatrist, has a former patient come up missing. These two things collide as strange things start to occur in her remote house during a storm.

My Take:
The movie is basically about mental unstable son but disguised as a supernatural thriller. There's a lot of holes in the script that makes it not very interesting.

Rating: Warning

Premise:
Humans now know of the lycans and vampire living among them and are doing what the can to terminate all. Selene wakes up from being captured and tries to save her daughter, the half breed hybrid, who is part of medical experiments.

My Take:
The entire series of films is getting rather tiresome and silly. Not that the franchise was ever great. If you like the series then you'll probably enjoy this installment.

My Take:
I think the show is finally starting to find it's footing and standing out as it's own series. The characters are becoming more interesting as time passes and the situations more intense. Plus all hell breaks loose on the season finale leaving the clue no clue where next season is heading.

Director: Eric England

Premise:

Lucha Underground, Season 3 (2017)

Starring: Prince Puma, Brian Cage, Rey Misterio, Jeff Cobb, John Morrison, Kira Foster, Paul Black, Vampiro, Matt Stryker, Melissa Santos, Pentigon Dark, Sexy Star, Dr. Wagner, Ricky Banderas, Karlee Perez, Texano, Paul London, William Mack, Shane Strickland, Dante Fox, Fenix, Martin Casuas, Melissa Anderson, Ivelisse Velez, Matt Cross, Sami Callihan

Premise:
Season Three of the show has warriors continuing to battle for wins and for the pleasure of owner Dario Cueto. And there's a mysterious glove that has super powers and has the owner being the vessel for the second coming.

My Take:
My favorite aspect about Lucha Underground is the attention to details when it comes to the story lines. Every character has a reason and things that happened in season one still matter in season three (and often built upon). It's face paced action and pure fun! Not to mention lots of macabre and supernatural elements. The series builds up to the final Ultima Lucha Tres which features some of the most violent and bloody wrestling matches I have ever seen on regular television. I really hope the promotion gets backers for more seasons.

Director: Ben Wheatley

Premise:
Two groups engage in a shoot out when a gun deal turns bad.

My Take:
Probably the most straight up movie yet from the director, in what turns out to be a very realistic and bloody take on a shoot out style of movie.

Dark Touch (2014)

Starring: Marcella Plunkett, Missy Keatling, Padriac Delaney
Director: Marina de Van

Premise:
A young girl is the survivor of a massacre that kills her entire family. No one believes her when she says the house is to blame. The neighbors take her in, only to find out something horrible manifesting within the child.

My Take:
The entire movie's underlying and not so subtle theme has to do with child abuse. With the director's track record of odd films, I really wanted more of the macabre.

The Love Witch (2017)

Starring: Samantha Robinson
Director: Anna Billar

Premise:
A witch puts love spells on men which usually ends with death.

My Take:
Takes on a throw back 60's look and vibe. Everything in the movie looks great, especially for it's limited budget. The story is mildly interesting but manages to hold the viewer to the end.

Premise:
An executive is tasked with retrieving the company's CEO from a remote wellness center in the Swiss Alps. He gets in an accident and stays for recovery. While there he starts to suspect the center isn't exactly what it seems to be.

The movie is slow, methodical, and quite odd then it's takes a big turn in the final act goes balls out crazy with it's ending. One that doesn't quote work for me.

Artifacts (2007)

AKA: Artefacts

Starring: Cecile Boland, Max Digby
Director: Giles Daoust, Emmanuel Jespers

Premise:
A woman realizes her friends are being murdered by doubles of themselves.

A Message From the Author:

I just wanted to a moment to reveal a little bit going in my personal life.

While I've said a few times over the years that the pace of my reviewing would curb, some how I always manages to keep up. However, now I think the time is finally going to become a reality.

Three weeks ago I had to rush my pregnant wife to the hospital. A few hours later, she had an emergency C Section and our baby boy was born seven weeks premature and very small, a condition we had been battling throughout the pregnancy. He was put in the Neonatal ICU, where is still remain. Between working my paying job, taking care of my recovering wife, spending hours a day in the hospital, and handling all the other daily tasks in our lives; my free time has been nonexistent. I am going nonstop from the moment I wake until I ultimately crash from daily exhaustion. There has been no time for escaping to the world of horror when we have been dealing with our own reality version of it.

I plan to keep the blog going and updating it with my silly, little reviews as often as I can, but those reviews will come farther apart.

Thanks to all the loyal followers. And for the record, despite everything our little guy his handling each obstacle he faces and currently coming out on the right side of things. He's a fighter and kicking some serious ass. We have a ways to go, but the situations looks very promising.
