Nightcrawler (2014)

Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, Bill Paxton
Director: Dan Gilroy

Premise:
A disturbed young man enters the world of crime journalism. Soon he starts stretching the lines of recording incidences to staging the scenes once he arrives in order to make the story look more gruesome.

My Take:
The movie had me riveted from the opening. Forces the viewer to think about what is morally acceptable in the world of journalism and how it is reported. As usual, Gyllenhaal shines as the main character who is a tad more than unstable.

Newlyweds find out they are pregnant. However some they suspect something isn't quite right with the unborn child.

My Take:
It's a tale told before and the found footage model doesn't help with originality. The actors and some decent special effects make it watchable.

Constantine, Season 1 (2015)

Starring: Matt Ryan, Harold Perrineau, Angelica Celaya, Charles Hafford

Premise:
A man with special supernatural gifts is thrown into a battle against the forces of evil.

My Take:
The series is rather uneven throughout and struggles to figure how to handle the material. This would have been a much cooler show without the constraints of public television. While Matt Ryan does a good job with the nihilistic character of John Constantine there is a lot of depth and back story to be explored. Maybe it will get a second season to find it's way.

The Silence (2010)

Director: Baran bo Odar

Premise:
A young girl is murdered in the exact same spot as another young girl 23 years earlier. The two cases are almost identical causing those responsible for the first crime to reunite.

My Take:
The movie is a gripping drama which deals with the horrible acts of two men (child pornography and child murders) while police detectives try the solve the cases. It is a bleak movie with no happy endings.

Premise:
In 1946, Peggy Carter acts a double agent to help clear Tony Stark's name when he is accused of treason. Instead she uncovers the secret organization called Leviathan is the culprit.

My Take:
The show allows more of the back story to the huge Marvel Universe, which will no doubt come into play with future movies and shows. I like the cast and most of the overall story. Glad it was a short run instead of a longer series.

Sleepy Hollow, Season 2 (2015)

Starring: Nicole Beharie, Tom Mison, John Noble, Katia Winter, Orlando Jones, Lynide Greenwood,

Premise:
The resurrected Icabod Crane and Sleepy Hollow cop Abby Mills are joined together in a battle with powerful demons who want to take over the world.

My Take:
In its second season the show starts to dive more into the mythos concerning the secret supernatural war in America. It also sees family drama play out between Icabod and Katrina in regards to their son Henry and his role in the war. At times it all seems a bit too much while being interesting at the same time.

Starring: Howard Vernon, Christina Von Blanc, Jess Franco, Britt Nichols
Director: Jess Franco

Premise:
A young woman arrives at a remote family castle for the reading of her father's will when she discovers many relatives staying there.

Not one of my favorite Franco flicks. It's consists of mainly a weird family being weird. The family is actually dead and there's some satanic mumbo jumbo involved too. It's really just rather boring and confusing.
