Premise:

My Take:
The movie kicks off fast and furious until hitting the viewer about half way through with the big twist and slowing way down.

Premise:

My Take:
The comedy hits more than it misses and for the most part is enjoyable.

Premise:
Aliens genetically alter rabbits in order to help them impregnate women and save their race from extinction. Only problem is the humans decide to fight back.

My Take:
The whole idea is over the top as is acting. No one takes it seriously. Too bad there just isn't much that's enjoyable - except the bickering alien duo.

Premise:
A man jumps through portals to other dimensions and time looking for his friend before a mysterious Tall Man can kill him. Is it all in his end or is it reality

My Take:
Is this franchise truly over? Who knows as the movie doesn't really answer a lot of the questions the series has opened up over the years. And it's a bit confusing with all the alternate realities and time jumping. At least it's good to see the main cast of characters back for one last hurrah.

Premise:

My Take:
The movie has a decent plot but there is simply too much interview style segments and talking instead of action and aliens. It got rather boring.

Alien Apocalypse (2005)

Premise:
A group of astronaut return to Earth only to find out it has been taken over by aliens. One of the astronauts decides to make a stand a save humanity.

My Take:
Bruce Campbell is gold, as always, and the script is rather silly. It's a throwback to the sci-fi flicks of the 50's.

Premise:
A group of teenagers try to stop aliens from kidnapping Elvis who happens to be performing in town.

My Take:
Definitely a movie which doesn't take itself seriously as it is a throwback to sci fi flicks of the 50's. The cast does a good job with the outlandish material and I sort of like the alien. In the end, I really just uninterested in the whole thing.

The World's End (2013)

Premise:
Twenty years after their failed attempt to conquerer "The Golden Mile" (12 pubs in one night), five friends reunite to with the same goal. Only they soon find out their old hometown has been taken over by alien robots in human form who want them to assimulate.

My Take:
The team of Wright, Pegg, and Frost get together for the third part of the unofficial "Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy" for a very enjoyable and fun flick. It's humorous with lots of over the top cartoonish violence and action. A fantastic cast pulls off the crazy material effortlessly.

Rating: So Good

Pacific Rim (2013)

Premise:
After Earth is attacked by giant beasts from another dimensions, Nations come together to create giant robots controlled by humans to battle the invaders.

My Take:
The story is decent, the acting is great, and the special effects are amazing. But over all I was a little disappointed in the movie. Maybe I expected more from Del Toro as he is one of my favorite directors. Still, it's an entertaining flick.

Fringe, Season 5 (2013)

Premise:
In this season, the Fringe gange awake in the future where the world is controlled by Observers. They attempt to reclaim pieces to Walter's plan to make things right again and defeat those in control.

My Take:
In it's last season, the show got very interesting once again. Peter and Olivia meet the daughter, who is part of the resistence. Walter loses his memory, and they spend most of the season trying to find pieces of a plan to take out the Observers for good from clues Walter left behind. The whole season was nicely done and the finale wraps up the series up with a satisfying conclusion.

Rating: So Good

Battle: Los Angeles (2011)

Premise:
Aliens attack the globe putting crafts outside twenty major cities. Marine forces in L.A. fight for their survival and civilians left behind while trying to take out the enemy.

My Take:
Not a lot of horror here but plenty of tension early on in the battle sequences.
Sort of typical big budget studio movie with holes in the scrip and big effects. I'm fairly jaded on these types of movies but I've sat through far worse.

Premise:
A group of Americans try to survive Moscow after an alien attack.

My Take:
It's basically a typical Hollywood alien invasion movie. However the nuances in the plot kept me interested for the majority of its running time. Plus I liked the reason why the aliens attack Earth and aliens themselves.

Super 8 (2011)

Premise:
A group of young kids are making a movie when they film a horrible train accident. The Air Force immediately comes in for the clean up which coincides with many strange happenings in the town.

My Take:
The movie was not was I expected as I kept spoiler free. It resonated with the kid in me, since I would've have been close to the same age as the group of friends during the same period of time and had a found love of movies and monsters as in my youth.
The movie resonated with me on every level. A movie not to be missed.

Rating: So Good (very, very good)

Attack the Block (2011)

Synopsis:
A gang of London teens protect their city block from invading aliens.

My Take:
Go watch this film immediately. It kicks serious ass.
The cast is very likeable, the story is simple yet smartly written, there are unique aliens, and has a decent amount of gore.
These little hoodlums are awesome.

Rating: Instant Classic

Torchwood: Children of Earth (Season 3, 2009)

Starring: John Barrowman, Eve Myles

Synopsis:
Aliens use all the children of Earth to communicate a message, "We're coming". The aliens arrive in Britain and demand a third of the Earth's children or else they unless a virus to wipe out all of humanity. The remaining Torchwood team tries to help humanity by stopping the aliens and dealing with the secrecy of the world's governments.

My Take:
I just wasn't as taken with this shortened third season. It contains all one story arc about alien contact and the taking of children. That doesn't mean the season is bad or a waste of time, but after the awesomeness of season two it was a let down.

Rating: In the Middle (on the high side)
