Proud to admit that I am a horror junkie.
However, my definition of what falls under the realm of horror entertainment is fairly wide. Horror is an emotion experienced differently by individuals.
These are short reviews of the movies, television series, novels, comics, albums, and any thing else which crosses my path if I feel like falls into the wide world of horror entertainment.

~Mind Blowing: Search for this movie immediately. It can only be described as pure greatness and possible an instant classic.
~So Good: Highly recommended because for one reason or another it stands out above the usual fair. Put the movie on your radar as it wont disappoint.
~In the Middle: The movie is a nothing special, average affair. It may entertain in the short term but it will be easily forgettable in the long haul.
~Warning: This movie is a cliched driven slop of familiar territory. Only watch if you're really of fan of this type of material.
~Steaming Pile: The movie is absolute garbage, a complete bore, and not worth the time or effort.

Premise:
Special effects artists compete to win the contest.
My Take:
I used to watch this show a lot until getting burned out on it because SyFy ran about two seasons a year. But my wife stumbled upon it and rather enjoys watching. It's really more of the same with talented effects artists
Premise:
Grad students studying Belugas whales in the Arctic on board a fishing vessel discover a Soviet craft in the icy waters. They bring it on board only to discover it has an alien creature inhabiting it.
My Take:
Noted for it's practical effects, which are above average, the movie tries it's hardest to be a Thing clone. It's a movie that is watchable and then forgettable. One wonders what all the hype was about surrounding it.
Premise:
A virus kills most of the population. The few survivors try to make safety in rural areas where they run into creatures determined to wipe out the rest of them.
My Take:
Doug Roos, the creator of the film, reached out for a review. And like any one who does so, I happy review their material.
What seems to be a fairly typical premise on the surface actually has a decent amount of new ideas. The actors do a good job as well to make it all believable.What sets the movie apart is the top notch practical effects. No CGI here and it shows. My biggest criticism of the flick is that it becomes a bit too talky at points which tends to drag it out a bit. Otherwise, this is an entertaining watch.

A competition between special effects artists.
My Take:
The contestants this season may have been the most talented over all. I thought there were about six people who had a legitimate shot at winning the competition. And the challenges are getting tougher as each season passes by. But I do have to wonder if the network is over doing it a bit with the seasons running so close to gether. I am afraid burn out and repetition may set in for the viewers.
Premise:
Three men in the same small town each prepare to make their homes into a haunted house for Halloween.
My Take:
A nice little documentary which showcases three individuals love for the holdiay by making their own home haunt. This is an annual thing which each do simply for enjoyment and out of their own pockets. They go through long preparations and stress on their families. And in the end, is it all worth it for one night of glory? For them, it is.

Premise:
A contest where 12 special effect artists battle in an elimination challenge each week until there is a winner.
My Take:
I just like the show and enjoy watching talented people make cool creatures and make up effects.
The show had a lot more celebrity guest judges this year. And the big twist with this season was the viewers picked the winner out of the three finalists.
Synopsis:
An inside look at a Hollywood special effects studios who specializes in making props and creatures.
My Take:
I do love old school special effects (not digital) and seeing how these props and creatures are made is really cool. The behind the scenes look is why I enjoy watching.
But the show feels like the producers are adding extra drama to make it interesting. The family is always bitching with each other. Cleve and Roy, the owner, are always at ends because of this incredibly tight dead lines. Each week multiple people come on in and want things made for a shoot that is only days away. I guess their producers fail at pre-production.

My Take:
The challenges got bigger in the second season. The cast is full of great artists and interesting personality.
As a guy who's always loved the art of special effects and make up, I simply love this show and constantly amazed at the talent on display.
