Premise:
A series of crimes ends up pointing to a man who may not be what he seems. A detective and a priest team up to take on the terror.

My Take:
Maybe it's my own fault, The movie did not live up to my expectations nor was quite what I thought it would be: a possession story on more of a grand scale. Instead it is rather conventional with fairly standard characters and possessed man creating havoc on the city. It's a watchable movie but very forgettable afterwards. It's also based on a true accounts of a former New York City police detective

Compliance (2012)

Premise:
A prank caller poses as a police officer and has a restuarant worker interrogated by her manager.

My Take:
I spent the first half of this movie furious at the stupidity of these characters going along with whatever a voice on the phone says without any real verification despite his vagueness and generalizations of why he needs them to perform the acts which become increasingly sexual. I understand people want to do the "right thing" and "no one wants to get into trouble" but this acts go to the extremes with different people. Then my rage surpassed I simply felt sorry for these characters. And the fact this same thing happened several times at different locations across the US just tells me people need to question more. A interesting movie that is sure to divide its audience.

Snowtown Murders (2011)

AKA: Snowtown

Premise:
A teenage boy falls under the spell of his mother's new boyfriend and his friends.

My Take:
This is one of the more disturbing movies a person can watch. Mainly because it's all portrayed in such a realistic fashion. The characters and their actions make almost every scene full of brutality.
You watch as this family comes under the spell of a serial killer. The young boys, who have endured sexual abuse from other adults, gravitate towards this man who provides them with a stable father figure, who is anything but stable.
This nihilistic tale is based on a the true events of killer John Bunting and the "Bodies in the Barrels" murders that occurred in Australia in the 90s.

Rating: So Good

Burke and Hare (2011)

Premise:
Two men take to murder in order to sell the bodies for dissection to a prestigious doctor at the prestigious Edinburgh medical school.
Takes place in the mid 1800's and based on a true story.

My Take:
The only thing really horrific is the way the characters make their money. The cast is amazing and play it perfectly with the comedy. And there is lots of it.
A nice comeback for director John Landis with a twisted take on historical events.

Rating: So Good
