An intense horror that pulls no punches with its gore and visuals.

My Take:
A creepy film that ratchets up the intensity as it keeps going. A remake of 70's film from Indonesia.

Premise:
A group of city kids go for a weekend in the jungle where strange things begin to occur.

My Take:
A familiar story that has added interest due to the country it was made in. The situations for the characters seem new and fresh. The acting is good and so are the special effects. The director has a way of keeping the movie creepy.

Mystics In Bali (1981)

Premise:
A researcher studying witchcraft from cultures around the world ends up in Bali where she studies under the a powerful witch who has alterior motives.

My Take:
The movie shows age with some laughable special effects (floating head) and the crazy witch cackling will annoy the hell out you, but it's always interesting to watch flicks about lore from other countries.

Premise:
A man wakes up buried in the woods with no memory. He stumbles upon an empty cabin covered in blood. He starts piecing together the clues to figure out what happened.

My Take:
I normally dig weird ass movies like this which mess with the viewer's timeline. And while it does keep you guessing up until the end there's just too much bogging down things between important scenes.

Killers (2014)

Premise:
A disturbed serial killer forms an online friendship with a journalist who is fed up with a Japanese mob boss ruining Jakarta. After the journalist commits an act of murder in self defense, the serial killer thinks he found a soul mate and a person to mentor. The journalist falls under the spell of the killer and begins to hunt down the mob boss. Eventually the journalist decides to stop and rejects the killer who then targets his family becomes the next victim. That is if the mob boss doesn't get to them first.

My Take:
This is one twisted, edge of your seat flick and it's great. The leads are top notch. So is the writing and directing from the Mo Brothers. Go watch this flick now.

Premise:
Rama if forced to go undercover to bring down a crime syndicate in order reveal police corruption.

My Take:
Much like the first movie, this one is full of gritty vicerea and violence. There is lots of action too. If you enjoyed the first flick then you will like this one too.

Macabre (2009)

Premise:
A group of friends pick up a hitchhiker and take her home. To repay the kindness her mother offers to cook them a meal. Turns out the family has other plans.

My Take:
The film pays great homage to slasher flick of the 80's. There's is lots of gore and many kills.
While this type of flick is common place in Western cinema, it's not as regular in the Eastern counterparts. And that is what makes it worth a watch.

Toilet 105 (2010)

Synopsis:
A vengeful ghost haunts a toilet stall at a high school.

My Take:
I think this might be my first fare into Indonesia horror. The movie follows the formula created by the J-Horror craze, long haired female ghost wanting revenge for those who did her wrong. Most of the movie's horror aspects are all too familiar. But it also throws in a lot of lighthearted comedy and budding romance which actually keeps the movie fairly interesting. Plus you get toilet ghost so there's an originality point right there. Throw in scene where human limbs are flushed and I had a decent time watching. Indonesia must have incredible plumbing. I wouldn't have thought so.
