The Rating System

All opinions are my own. We are all different. What I may think is great, you may this terrible. Don't let my opinios stop you from exploring the vast world of horror in all media.

~Mind Blowing: Search for this movie immediately. It can only be described as pure greatness and possible an instant classic.

~So Good: Highly recommended because for one reason or another it stands out above the usual fair. Put the movie on your radar as it wont disappoint.

~In the Middle: The movie is a nothing special, average affair. It may entertain in the short term but it will be easily forgettable in the long haul.

~Warning: This movie is a cliched driven slop of familiar territory. Only watch if you're really of fan of this type of material.

~Steaming Pile: The movie is absolute garbage, a complete bore, and not worth the time or effort.

Toad Road (2013)

Starring: Jason Banker, Sara Anne Jones

Premise:
A group of young 20 somethings hang out, drinking, and doing drugs. The new girlfriend of one of the group wants to explore the legend of Toad Road, which is apparently leads to the Gates of Hell.

My Take:
An interesting movie where the majority is about people getting messed up on drugs. Then this local legend gets thrown in the mix where supposedly on this road there are seven gates and no one has ever been past the third gate. This girl wants to get all messed up and walk it with her boyfriend because she believes there is a bigger meaning behind it. They do and the guy is found months later which no memory of what happened during the walk or what happened to his girlfriend. With the editing and pacing, everything is a tad delutional which might be why it held my interest. I'm gonna have to watch this again soon to see if I pick up any extra details.

Vampire Queen of Quezon City (2010)

Director: Khvan

Premise:
A cop is searching for a serial killer who is taking young girls. This disturbed man tortures, violates, murders, and eats these women.

My Take:
There is a lot of intense and explict scenes and imagery in this movie (including a hardcore rape scene). Plus several long and extended scenes of nothing important. It makes for a bad balance and ultimately a missed opprotunity on a familiar subject by a different culture than mine. However that's to say it doesn't have some merit with great surreal moments known in the experimental film genre. The director is one to keep an eye on.

Rating: In the middle (but not for every one)

Emotion (1966)

Director: Nobuhiko Ôbayashi

Premise:
A girl comes to the city and meets another girl, then falls in love with a vampire.

My Take:
I do enjoy experiment films, especially from this time period.
The story here is a bit soft and odd (typical for an experimental film) but the visuals more than make up for it.

Rating: In the middle
