My Take:
Did this band simply have good timing and take advantage of the situation or was their more devious forces at work? The question is sort of left up to the viewer.

Black Roses (1988)

Premise:
Demons disguised as a metal band play a small town to test out that their music will turn people into mindless followers of evil.

My Take:
That devil music will brain wash the kids!!! Actually this is a fun movie with great practical effects.

Premise:
A look at the life of rocker and showman Alice Cooper

My Take:
I've always been a fan of Alice Cooper. This doc takes into when the band first formed in Detroit (in high school) and eventually transformed into the group known for their macabe stage show. The bands breakup leading to a one man show and all troubles behind. Great stuff.

Gospel Haunted

Artist: Those Poor Bastards
Released: 2010


My Take:
Those Poor Bastards are a band I have been listening to a lot lately. It's a sound a dig. This album deals a lot with tempataion of evil onto the religious believers.

The opening track Glory Amen kicks it off with a song just like the album title suggest, a haunting gospel style track. Then listener slides right into Judgement Is Coming which is a distorted country twang sounding song warning those of the demise and those preaching it. The heavier A Secret is a fun little diddy. While Wealth Is Death pratces what it speaks with a outlaw country style. The album closes out with the epic Ill At Ease. Great stuff from a great band.

The Butcher's Ballroom

My Take:
This is such a cool album. It's has jazzy, funk, big band sound with a female lead singer who uses an opera style. It makes a very unique combo, but more importantly it just works. At least for me.

Cirque Berzerk: Beneath

Premise:
A recording of the Cirque Berzerk act, a carnival-vaudville style of entertainment show.

My Take:
This is a unique act of performers. They combine a nice story with the acrobatics of circus, the songs and skin of a caberet, and daredevil stunts. I really want to go and see this act live. It was incredibly watching it on video.

The Plague

My Take:
Those Poor Masters are masters at a dark country gospel sound (termed gothic country) with brooding lyrics of despair and death. This album can be downright depressing at times and frighening at others. The band reminds me a lot of Johnny Cash with songs like "Old Pine Box", "Evil on My Mind", Black Lightning", and "Nightmare Lullabye".

Rating: So Good

In the Dark

Artist: Harley  Poe

My Take:
Harley Poe has been making music for quite awhile. And many beyond Indiana have probably never heard of the band (or with in the state either). They bring a unique sound of rockabilly punk with dark and horrific lyrics. Their songs tells stories and at the core have a message. Plus the song titles are great, "Corrupting My Better Half", "Transvestites Can Be Cannibals Too", and "In the Dark" are just a few of the gems on this album.

Rating: So Good

Metalocalypse, Season 4 (2012)

Starring: Tommy Blancha, Brendon Small, Mark Hamill, Malcolm McDowell


Premise:
A look at the most popular band in the world, Deathklok, and their daily adventures.

Season 4 has the band trying to complete their new album, which will drive the world's economy into positive numbers. We also learn about the origins secret society plotting against Deathklok and an ancient prophecy about the band.

My Take:
This show continues to be very entertaining. It uses the band to poke fun at celebritism, the government, and many other things in satirical and humorous ways. Plus the show normally gets incredibly gory at the end of each episode with fans being slaughtered.
After three seasons, we finally get a lot info revealed about why Deathklok is so important.

Favorite Episode:
"Dethvanity" - Murderface wins an award for being the most brutal looking man in music, which forces him to get plastic surgery.

Rating: So Good

Dont Go In the Woods (2012)

Premise:
A young band heads off to the remote woods to write the remaining songs for their album. It doesn't take long before things go array.

My Take:
I'm still not sure if I was watching a horror movie or one long and boring music video. Every time you think something is about to happen, another song breaks out. In all there might be twenty minutes of actual movie plot (and believe me its thin and makes little sense).

This movie proves great actors dont always make decent directors.

Welcome To My Nightmare 2

Artist: Alice Cooper


My Take:
The Coop can still rock. And he still has that unique sounding voice. A solid album which surprised me a couple of times with its musical direction. There is a lot of diversity.
I enjoyed listening to the album but it cant match the classic original.

Favorite Tracks:
"Last Man On Earth" - This tune has a very vaudevillian feel to it. Not at all what I expected with lots of accordion and piano. I could easily picture Tom Waits singing this tune.

"I Am Made Of You" - A heavy power ballad with some very cool lyrics.

"Gotta Get Out of Here" - A perfect last song as it sums up the story of the album. Done is a country rock style.

Rating: In the middle
