Premise:
The prequel to the popular series goes back to how a paranormal investigative team came together as they help a father who may have a possessed daughter.

My Take:
The movie provides decent scares and a solid cast. It's a good backstory with the pivotal characters while providing an entirely new story.

The Stone Tape (1972)

Premise:
A group of scientists are brought together in an old castle to invent a new recording medium to replace tape. They find a ghost haunting a room and come up with a theory that the haunting is merely a recording in the castle walls due to the violent event and each human mind interprets it differently. Then they set out to prove the theory.

My Take:
I was a little disappointed in this cult classic. The acting is over the top (and at times bad) and the majority of the effects are nothing more than colored lighting and camera tricks. Now, for a forty year old movie it is quite ahead of its time as these scientist use science techniques to explain the disturbance. It's too bad the didn't explore that aspect more. Still, it's worth watching due to it's innovative story even if the technology being used is forty years old.

Red Lights (2012)

Premise:
A college psycologist and physicist study cases of paranormal activity trying to find one that's real. Their investigation turns to a reknowned psychic who has come out of self imposed retirement.

My Take:
A movie with a very interesting story that I feel misses the mark. It ends up being a decent watch but could have been outstanding. Still, there's great performances and a couple decent twists.
