Shake, Rattle, and Roll 12 (2010)

Starring: Shina Magadayao, Ricky Davao, John Lapus, Andi Eigenmann, Rayver Cruz, Carla Abellana, Odette Khan, Sid Lucero
Director: Topel Lee, Zoren Legaspi, Jerrold Tarog

Premise:
Three tales of horror: a demon doll enters a mourning families household, a women falls prey to mythical undersea creature, and a pack of shapeshifters try to survive undetected in the city.

My Take:
Another installment of this powerhouse Filipino horror franchise is met with the usual troubles of an anthology tale... some stories are better than others. While I find all the legends of an other country to be interesting and the movie is well executed, none of them particularly stand out.

Rating: In the middle

True Blood, Season 7 (2014)

Starring: Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Alexander Skarsgard, Ryan Kwanten, Sam Trammel, Debrah Wol, Chris Bauer, Nelson Ellis, Carrie Preston, Lauren Bowels, Kristin Bauer van Straten

Premise:
In season 7, vampires with the Hep Virus invade Bon Temps. They infect and kidnap people before Sookie bands a small group together to save the town.

My Take:
While I think the series has been failing for a couple of seasons now, this final season is an utter mess and worse it is mostly boring. Major characters die, characters came back in the fold, and many characters go against their type that has been beaten over our heads for season (that is not character development, that is desperation). Honestly it feels like the writers didn't even care about a true story, they just wanted to wrap it all up in a neat little Hallmark moment and drag the nothingness out as long as they could. And for a series known for over the top gore and sex, there is little of both in the final season. I really disliked the entire season.

Rating: Warning

The Wind Through the Keyhole [Dark Tower 4.5]

Author: Stephen King

Premise:
Roland and his ka-tet (Susannah, Jake, Eddie, and the billybumbler) seek shelter from a stakblast, a freak ice storm. While shacked up he tells a story of his youth when called upon a small village to investigate a shapeshifter. While there, the young Roland tells the story of "The Wind Through the Keyhole" about a young boy he travels through a dark and magical forest to find the wizard Mearlyn.

My Take:
The Dark Tower is my favorite series of novels, so it was a pleasure to pick a new tale. While most of the story within a story within a story has nothing to do with the ka-tet on their current journey, it does reveal more about a young Roland. And the story which the book is titled is an great little tale. A fan of the series should not hesitate to pick up this book.

Rating: So Good
