A look inside some of the best movies in the history of horror cinema.

My Take:
I am a sucker for shows like this - creators of the genres talking about their genre and their influences... in this case movies. There's some good material here but dont go into it thinking you will find any new, obscure movies to watch.

Premise:
A look inside the rise and fall of Cannon Films, ran by Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus.

My Take:
If you know much about cinema history or are a movie buff then Cannon Films probably holds a place in your heart or memory. They produced a large amount of movies in the 70s and 80s throughout all genres. It was very interesting to see how these two men built the company up and how it ultimately failed.

Premise:

My Take:
A good documentary which explains the history of zombie lore, in movie and history, and some what successfully answers the question of why zombies have become such a pop culture.

My Take:
Being from the era of the tape I enjoyed this documentary immensely. It covers tape traders, current collectors, how the media came out, Beta vs VHS evolution, how VHS impacted the movie industry and particular genres, the rental store experience, current VHS re-sellers, and much more. Sprinkled in with great interviews from directors, collectors, fans, and industry experts to reveal much insight. A must see for film buffs or people wanting to relive the classic days of VHS.

Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th (2013)

An indepth retrospective on the Friday the 13th series

My Take:
Clocking in at around six and half hours this is a tremendously detailed documentary which goes through not only the original installment of movies, but also the television show, Freddy vs Jason, and the remake. Packed full of interviews with actors, directors, writers, and others and lots of behind the scene stuff. A worthy documentary that isn't just for fans of the series but horror buffs in general

Mark Gattis takes off across Europe to interview the people involved with his favorite horror films.

My Take:
A follow up to the 2010's BBC produced A History of Horror with Mark Gattis this time with the focus on horror movies of Europe. If you like the first series, then you will enjoy this one. Several great movies are discussed with their directors, actors, and historians.

Corman's World: Exploits of a Hollywood Rebel (2011)

Synopsis:
A documentary covering the career of movie producer Roger Corman and his lasting effect on the film industry.

My Take:
If you a fan of horror then the name Roger Corman probably comes to mind. He has made some of the best (and worst) exploitation films of the last fifty years.
This documentary is packed full of interviews from movie greats on both sides of the camera and from the legend himself as he explains how and why he makes cheap genre movies.

Premise:
A look at the cheap explotation movies made in the Phillipeans, mostly by American movie studios, from the 60's-80's.

My Take:
A interesting documentary which covers how the Filipino film industry got off the ground. A lot of Corman horror and female prison movies were made there.
