Premise:
A famous painter moves to a small town to teach. He ends up caring for a local mute who has ties to the university. The man also sleepwalks and devours living things. The painter finds inspiration him the mute doing this and begins painting again.

My Take:
It's a movie that grows on you as it keeps going, mainly due to the character development and their odd relationship.

Teen Lust (2015)

Starring: Jesse Carere, Daryl Sabara, Annie Clark, Cary Elwes, Kristin Bauer van Straten, Emmanuelle Vaugier, Jon Dore
Director: Blaine Thurier

Premise:
A high school virgin finds out he is to be sacrificed by his Satan Church on this 18th birthday.

My Take:
An enjoyable movie that's part virgin comedy and part satanic ritual. At times it meshes well together but there are a lot of cringing moments as well.

Director: Bruce MacDonald

Premise: A teenager tries to survive Halloween when trick or treaters come to her door with evil plans in mind.

My Take:
A movie that definitely was not what I expected, but in a very good way. It's refreshing, fun, and strange all at the same time.

The Sound (2017)

Starring: Rose McGowan, Christopher Lloyd, Michael Eklund, Richard Gunn, Stephan McHattie
Director: Jenna Mattison

Premise:
A paranormal debunker sets off to prove an abandoned subway station is not haunted by ghosts.

My Take:
I enjoy the take on how the main character debunks hauntings based off sound waves and frequency levels playing tricks with the mind. Too bad the movie didn't go deeper in the process.

Naked Massacre (1976)

Starring: Mathieu Carries, Christine Boisson, Leonora Fani
Director: Denis Heroux

Premise:
A disturbed vet returns home from the Vietnam War and invades a house shared by a group of woman who proceeds to murder.

My Take:
The movie definitely shows some age but it managed to get under my skin. There are a couple of intense scenes, like a forced lesbian rape scene, which are cringworthy.

Orphan Black, Season 5 (2017)

Starring: Tatiana Maslany, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Jordan Gavaris, Kevin Hanchard, Kirstian Bruun, Ari Millen, Evelyne Bochu, Josh Vokey, Rosemary Dunsmore, Krya Harper, Stephen McHattie

Premise:
Season 5 has the clones banding together against Rachel, who know is in charge of the company, and the mysterious man who has been behind it all, P.T. Westmoreland.

My Take:
The series wraps up everything in a nice, neat little bow with a positive outcome for the sestras (a little too convenient). Tatiana Maslany is incredible as always and damn near the reason to watch alone.

I am still split on the series. At times it was outstanding and incredible television. At other times it was too convoluted and smart for it's own good. Overall, it's will remain one of the more interesting series of the decade.

Aegri Somnia (2008)

Starring: Tyhr Trubiak
Director: James Rewucki

Premise:
After his wife's death a widower's psyche starts to fall apart.

My Take:
The movie tries to take arthouse horror approach and it really doesn't work. There are a few decent individual scenes but not a lot of substance behind it all.

A cameraman is promised to get his film financed by a producer if he can produce an award winning grown in 48 hours.

A movie about a man making a movie with one strange sequence after another which somehow fit together into the madness. It stays within the patterns of the director's other works

Long Pig (2007)

Starring: Anthony Alviano
Director: Nathan Hynes, Chris Powers

Premise:
Two filmmakers make a movie about a cannibal and serial killer.

My Take:
I'm not sure if the filmmaker was trying to be shocking or preachy. Either way it lost my interest early on and never quite recovered.

Starring: Ali Cobrin,
Director: Jon Knautz, Trevor Matthews

Premise:
A young girl moves into a house with other girls where everything is streamed over the internet. One of their fans becomes obsessed with her and after feeling jaded, he comes looking for her.

My Take:
What is a decent premise to the slasher film is ruined by huge gaps of logic and time continuity.

The Editor (2014)

Starring: Paz de la Huerta, Udo Kier, Laurence R Harvy, Matthew Kennedy, Adam Brooks, Conor Sweeney, Tristan Risk
Director: Adam Brooks, Matthew Kennedy

Premise:
A film editor gets caught in the middle of murders while cutting his latest movie.

My Take:
The team of Astro Six does it again with a wild homage to 70's Italian giallo movies. They do an great job of playing within the rules of the genre while firmly holding tongue in cheek and going for a little shock value. This group clearly has fun making films and it shows on screen.

The Mask (1961)

Starring: Paul Stevens
Director: Julian Roffman

Premise:
An archaeologist finds a curse masked which causes him to murder.

My Take:
Not a very good movie. It uses the 3D gimmick, which was new back then, to try for some trippy scares. It fails.
