My Take:
The comedy hits more than it misses and for the most part is enjoyable.

Hounds of Love (2016)

Premise:
A young girl is abducted by a couple. She realize the only way to survive is to get her two unstable captors to turn on each other.

My Take:
A gripping a disturbing movie that reminds the viewer that one never knows what goes on behind closed doors of those houses in your neighborhood. The movie manages to be brutal without ever crossing a line to seem over the top into "torture porn" level. It's very realistic and harrowing.

Daddy's Little Girl (2014)

Premise:
A man's daughter goes missing and is found murdered. He tries to cope and tries find answers to who killed his girl when killer might be closer to him than he thinks.

My Take:
A straight forward revenge tale with a grieving father getting revenge on the person who killed his daughter.

Premise:
A family in a rural area are attacked by a pack of feral canines.

My Take:
The movie could have been so much better if not for the bad dialog (like an animal vet saying they've never heard of wild dogs) and characters doing asinine things.

Wolf Creek, Season 1 (2016)

Starring: John Jarrett, Lucy Fry, Dustin Clare


Premise:
After her family is slain while on vacation in the Australian Outback the surviving family member hunts down the man responsible.

My Take:
Capturing even more grittiness then the film it's based on, this series manages to continue the story of the notorious serial killer Mick Taylor and tell a new story centering around a survivor of one of his attacks. The desolation of the terrain is captured beautifully and becomes a character itself. This short series is a highly entertaining way to continue this saga.

Van Diemen's Land (2009)

Premise:
The story of one of Australia's most legendary criminals, Alexander Pearce, who in 1822 escaped a harsh prison to try and survive the wilds of Tasmania. Other convicts also escaped but only one made it out alive.

My Take:
A slow moving and gritty movie about unpleasant individuals trying to survive a harsh, uncharted wilderness in the search for freedom.

Predestination (2015)

Premise:
A time travel agent has one last assignment before retiring. To obtain a man responsible for a bombing. A man the agent has tried to capture his entire career.

My Take:
Time travel movies are always a tough one. This one keeps a fairly interesting story but unfortunately it's also fairly easy to see where things are heading (if one is paying attention). It sort of became a disappointment. Perhaps you wont figure it all out and enjoy it better than I did. For me to reveal anymore would take away from the layers involved with the flick.

My Take:

My Take:
A rather boring film which falls into traditional traps of found footage.

The Rover (2014)

Premise:
A group of robbers steal a man's car and with the help of one of the wounded men left behind, he starts a pursuit to re-obtain is possession.

My Take:
This is a gritty, nihilistic film with throwbacks to a Western. The movie looks amazing with the rugged Australian Outback in nearly every scene. The cast is great too, I was actually with Pattinson's take on his character. A solid film.

Premise:
Serial killer Mick Taylor once again has his way with tourists who get lost in the Australian Outback.

My Take:
A solid sequel that adds back story to the main character. It also isn't shy with the blood and torture. If you are a fan of the first movie, then you should enjoy the follow up.

Muirhouse (2012)

Premise:
An author making a documentary on a famous haunted house experiences first hand the supernatural entities.

My Take:
The intriguing part of the movie is the property filmed is actually labeled as the most haunted house in Australia. Everything else is the movie of course staged and acted. The first half sets up the history of the place and in fact is rather boring because is mostly the lead actor walking around with a camera and talking. But once the paranormal incidents start to occur the film picks up. My big complaint is the movie starts with the ending and at the ending doesn't wrap the two together.

Crawlspace (2012)

Premise:
A special military unit is sent to a secret compound with orders to take control of the base. They find out the place has been a ground for making alien-human hybrids and other ghastly experiments which now puts all their lives in jeopardy.

My Take:
There is lots of homage to horror-sci fi of the past. The movie has believable action, good effects,  and decent story. It's worth watching.

Premise:
A young couple go to a small, uninhabited island for a vacation only to find out there are not the only one's there.

My Take:
Hey, it's an uninhabited island. Let's stop here and a fun couple of days. Oh wait, why have my things been messed with and spread all over camp? What are those strange sounds in the woods? Bicker, bicker, bicker. It's obviously a ghost wanting revenge. At least the two main actors are likeable and the scenery is gorgeous.

The Strange Call, Season 1 (2012)

Premise:
A police offer gets reassigned to a smalll town where odd things keep occuring.

My Take:
This initial season has a police officer dealing with such things as a cat returning from the dead, a mermaid, a man turning into a chicken, and a few other items. It's quirky and at times funny as the officer adjusts to his new surroundings, towns folk, and the crazy old man he has to live with, who ends up being is side kick and biggest ally. It will be interesting to see if the show continues and where it may lead.

Family Demons (2009)

Premise:
An abusive, alocholic mother is killed by her tormented daughter. Then her ghost comes back to terrorize the girl. 

My Take:
This movie has no likeable characters. Even though you sympathize for the teenage girl because of the mental and physical abuse she receives, the movie turns her mental basketcase with an itch killing. It is a poor job all around on a subject which could have had great impact instead the movie is turned into a typical horror flick.

100 Bloody Acres (2013)

Premise:
A group of friends with a broken down car get picked up by a man who runs an organic fertilizer company, where the special ingredient is human meat.

My Take:
A much better movie than anticipated with a comedy undertones and a decent amount of splatter. There's also a couple of distrubing moments.
