My Take:

Premise:
A woman in an unhappy marriage is taken to a meteorite in the woods that contains a mysterious tentacled creature that causes pleasure and makes pain.

My Take:
The movie has a lot deals with a lot of messed up family drama - the woman's husband is cheating on her with her brother - and puts a Lovecraftian spin on things. It's definitely a unique story.

Life (2017)

Premise:
An International Space Station finds an organism on a meteor. The creature quickly grows as the crew discovers it was responsible for the destruction of life of Mars and now threatens Earth.

My Take:
A familiar tale rises above the material due to the excellent cast, tight direction, and bold ending.

Alien: Covenant (2017)

Premise:
A colony ship comes across a new planet that harbors a horrible secret.

My Take:
I am not going to pretend like there aren't complaints and faults with the movie. There are many: smart people doing dumb things, little character development, disappointing CGI, a completely obvious ending, and what feels like a short run time (even at two hours). However there is still enough to keep me sucked in. Like most fans, I had hoped the prequel trilogy would be more than it's turned out to be. At this point, it is what it is and maybe the next one will sum things up.

Rating: In the middle (but damn if I still dont love this franchise)

Premise:
A ship enters New York containing a strange egg looking thing that infects and kills people once it's bursts open. A team of researches must find out it's origins.

My Take:
Sort of a low budget, Italian, Alien ripoff (pods, eggs, contamination) except the story is set on Earth and the alien was brought back with an astronaut who went to Mars. The movie managed to keep my interest though I was unsatisfied with the results.

Monsters and Mysteries Unsolved, Season 1 (2016)

Premise:
Investigations on the paranormal, supernatural,  and world of cryptids.

My Take:
With episodes focusing on animal apocalypse, Bermuda Triangles, hauntings, life after death, and more there is a decent amount of interesting episodes. Though there are done with the usual style of Destination America shows, so it's not top quality.

All Hallow's Eve (2013)

Premise:
A kid gets a mysterious video tape in his candy bag on Halloween. The babysitter starts watching the tape which contains scary tales revolving around a demented clown.

My Take:
Despite it's low budget the movie doesn't skimp on the gore or the bizarre. It's a messed up series of tales including the wrap around story.

My Take:

My Take:

Premise:
Grad students studying Belugas whales in the Arctic on board a fishing vessel discover a Soviet craft in the icy waters. They bring it on board only to discover it has an alien creature inhabiting it.

My Take:
Noted for it's practical effects, which are above average, the movie tries it's hardest to be a Thing clone. It's a movie that is watchable and then forgettable. One wonders what all the hype was about surrounding it.

Premise:

My Take:

My Take:

My Take:
Is it an alternate reality or another planet... who really cares as there are so many holes in the story. The movie is bad, but not in a fun and watchable way.

My Take:
I'm not sure how I missed this movie growing up but I did. The movie is watchable and at times fun but you must get pass the atrocious acting and the puppet like aliens.

Premise:
Two tales one about an murdering alien in a strip club and the other about a herd of buxom female vampires with opening segments from The Crapkeeper.

My Take:
Lots of cameos in this Troma "classic" and lots of what one comes to expect from their movies as it's very tongue in cheek, over the top with gore, lots of nudity, and laughs. I wanted to enjoy it more, but mostly misfired for me.

Under the Skin (2014)

Premise:
An alien poses as a female and drives around Scotland seducing young men to feed from. After awhile she starts to develop feelings.

My Take:
A very slow and plodding movie. Basically the same thing happens over and over for the first sixty minutes. Drive around, talk to a guy, take him back to your hide out, and absorb his life force. Honestly, it is rather boring. At least the movie picks up a bit in the final act. The movie does look great from a cinematic stand point and Mrs Scarlett walks around in the buff a few times. Are those enough things to keep one's interest? That I cannot answer.

Almost Human (2013)

Premise:
A man is taken away by a bright light in the sky. His fiancee and best friend was the last to see him before the disappearance. Two years later, the mysterious lights have returned. So has a murder spree which lead people to believe someone has returned home.

My Take:
I enjoyed this flick. There is a decent amount of gore and good practical effects. The story is a little thin and familiar but it creates a mysterious experience to the straight up mayhem.
