Premise:
A group of friends head to a remote cabin for the weekend. One them gets possessed by an ancient demon and all hell breaks loose

My Take:
There's lots of homage to the Evil Dead in the movie yet manages to make its own movie by using Swedish folklore. Lots of good gore too. It's a fun little movie.

My Take:
An over the top splatterfest that is very tongue in cheek.

Ragnarok (2013)

Premise:
An archaeologist searches for the true meaning behind an ancient Viking rune. He takes a team to a remote mountain area and a giant serpent living in the waters.

My Take:
A worth watching flick which was much better than expected. It has solid special effects too. The basic find a creature then try to escape time of story manages to keep the viewer entertained.

The Silence (2010)

Premise:
A young girl is murdered in the exact same spot as another young girl 23 years earlier. The two cases are almost identical causing those responsible for the first crime to reunite.

My Take:
The movie is a gripping drama which deals with the horrible acts of two men (child pornography and child murders) while police detectives try the solve the cases. It is a bleak movie with no happy endings.

Rating: So Good

Marianne (2013)

Premise:
A man is left to raise his newborn daughter and teenage daughter after his wife dies in a car accidents. He starts having dreams which may be a curse brought on by his past secrets.

My Take:
I enjoy movies about lore from countries different than mine. This has to do with the Swedish Mare, which is an evil spirit which sucks the life out of people while sleeping. The movie lets you decide if there is a monster or if the problems are caused by the man's guilt. Everything clicked for me in the movie.

Storm (2006)

Premise:
A man is handed a mysterious box and becomes an unwilling participant in a game between two competitors which leads into crazy situations and down a path of emotional discovery.

My Take:
A complex and entertaining flick which mashes up elements from many genres with ease. Your head will spin trying figure it all out. You are probably better off enjoying what you ware watching and piece it together afterwards.

The Phantom Carriage (1921)

Premise:
During a night of drinking, three friends recount the legend of the "phantom carriage" which says the last sinner to die on the eve of the New Year will be forced to be the collector of the souls.

My Take:
For a silent movie made nearly 90 years ago, it holds up fairly well. The camera and lighting techniques stand out. Great performances too.
Check out this classic flick.

A Hole In My Heart (2004)

Premise:
A young man hides out in his room while his father makes a porn movie.

My Take:
A movie that will get under your skin. It's full of disturbing scenes and demeaning situations. I love the editing techniques. In the end the movie is really about a group of people dealing with loss and tragedy in their own sick way.
It's definitely worth watching if one can tolerate the strong content.

Rating: So Good

The Magician (1958)

Synopsis:
A group of traveling magicians have a rumor of supernatural involvement come into a village where the powers that be demand they see their act before the public.

My Take:
Bergman rides the line between an artist's sacrifice to their craft and every day people's paranoia in what they dont understand. Lots of slight of hand in this movie, just like a magic show.
Love the scene where the troupe trick the police chief and corner into thinking one of them has been murdered.
