Nymph (2009)

Premise:
A couple head out into the Thai jungle to help with their failing marriage but come across something neither expected.

My Take:
There is a lot not explained in the movie concerning the couple - what happened to them or what attacked them. Maybe it's just lost on a person who doesn't know the local lore. The movie remains intriguing and quite odd until the end.

Premise:
A group of city kids are taking a trip into the jungle. The bus crashes when a bridge collapses. The survivors find an abandoned village. They all start to get murdered.

My Take:
A serial killer in the woods story that has a unique Thailand spin to it.

Premise:

My Take:
A fun movie with lots of action and craziness. It's definitely something different even with the simple story.

13: Game of Death (2006)

Premise:
A recently fired worker gets a phone call telling him he can earn money by a different task thirteen different times. The catch is if he fails one time, he loses all the money.


My Take:
The tasks range from the comical to the down right disgusting. It builds up to an interesting conclusion. Really though the character isn't one to really care about.

Premise:
Three horror stories ("Next Door", "Dark Hole", "The Lost Memory") from three different Asian directors from three different countries in Asian.

My Take:
All three stories are watchable but nothing new. "The Lost Memory" is my favorite of the bunch as it hits all the right notes.

Premise:
Three roommates get a delivery from a weed dealer on New Year's Eve. Soon it becomes clear the stranger knows about their secrets and wont leave until they confess.

My Take:
David Asavanond gives a tour de force performance and is worth the price of admission alone. The rest of the cast, the direction, and story are all solid as well.

Slice (2009)

Premise:
A  serial killer is hunting rich men and cutting off their penises. The detective in charge gets assistance from an imprisoned hitman to find the killer. The hitman goes to childhood home and soon thinks the killer is a former childhood friend.

My Take:
A stylish flick with lots of grittiness. There are many very uncomfortable and brutal situations. Plus a great twist towards the end which ties the story together. The subject matter will be difficult for some as the Thai sex industry is a major catalyst in the tale.

Pee Mak Phranknong (2013)

Premise:
A soldier returns home from the war with four friends who life he saved. He wants to show them his village and introduce them to his wife and newborn baby. Something is a strange upon their arrival with rumors that his wife died during childbirth and is a ghost which is endangering them all.

My Take:
A decent movie with which plays heavy on a mans decision to believe what is true or what his heart is telling him.

Secret Sunday (2010)

Premise:
Three people visit nine different temples to help clear up their bad karma. Soon they realize that each of them is connected from past live experiences and paying for them together.

My Take:
A decent film with a decent little mystery and plenty of ghostly spirits which is typical in Thai horror. It's worth a watch but didn't really stand out to me either.

A group of friends help out on remodeling a home one of them has inherited. During the night they begin to tell scary stories and strange things begin to happen.

My Take:
Like many Thai horror movies this one has a lot of ghosts but it also packs sex and weirdness. A watchable flick but doesn't stand too far out of the normal fare.

Buppah Rahtree Phase 2: Rahtree Returns (2005)

Premise:
The spirit of a vengeful ghost and her boyfriend haunts an apartment where bank robbers are hiding out.

My Take:
I surprised by the original and how well it blended comedy and riffs from classic horror films. The sequel has some of the same charm. It brings back many of the orginal cast who live in the complex and mixes their story with Buppah.

The Unseeable (2006)

Premise:
A pregnant girl from the country goes to Bangkok searching for her husband. She stops at an estate outside the city and asks for help. There she finds things are as they appear.

My Take:
A disjointed film which keeps the viewer guessing throughout as pieces of the puzzle are revealed. A surreal quality hangs thick throughout in this well told tale.

Train of the Dead (2007)

Premise:
Five robbers crash into a shop and take the owner hostage. They seek refuge from the police on a train where they soon find out the passengers are all deceased and the train is heading for their final judgment. 

My Take:
The movie just didn't click with me. I've seen far better Thai movies with a plot revolving around death. 
The characters in this one either fall flat or go over the top. And there's nothing too interesting.

Die a Violent Death (2010)

Premise:
Four tales based on true events.

My Take:

"Haunting Motel" -My favorite tale of the movie has a two friends, one gay and one straight, pick up a prostitute. They go to a hotel ran by a creepy murderous old lady. This segment borders heavily on slapstick and is a nice change of pace.

"Flame" - A man grieves over his girlfriend after she dies in a nightclub fire.

"Revenge" - A drug dealer kills a woman who steals from him and hides the body in the apartment complex water supply. Adverse effects start occurring to the tenants.

"Imprison" - A man in prison is haunted by his cell mate who committed suicide.

The House (2007)

Premise:
A reporter investigates a murder in house. Then discovers three other murders the same number of years apart occurred at the same location. The closer she gets to the truth, the closer she gets to becoming the next victim.

My Take:
Follows the formula of many Thai horror flicks. Ghosts and a mystery and a big swerve towards the end. The formula works for me, well most of the time, and this movie is no exception. Too bad some other things in the plot drag the story down.

SARS Wars: Bangkok Zombie Crisis (2004)

Premise:
The SARS virus mutates and causing the infected to turn into zombies. The beginning of the outbreak is contained in a Bangkok apartment building where a gang kidnapped a girl who they are holding for ransom.

My Take:
Some over the top comedy, decent special effects, and shear bizarreness make this a mildly entertaining movie.

The Coffin (2008)

Premise:
Two people follow a Thai customer of sleeping in a coffin to trick death. After the ritual, they both start seeing the ghosts of their loved ones and try to figure out why.

My Take:
This was a straight forward ghost tale. Nothing overly dramatic or scary or really new here. That doesn't make it a bad movie but not one I'll watch again.
Maybe it resonated more with the viewers in Thailand.

My Take:

Meat Grinder (2009)

Synopsis:
A woman runs a noodle shop where she uses a special kind of meat...human.

My Take:
I like how many horror films made in Thailand break up the time line with flashbacks and flash forwards. It makes you pay attention in order to piece the story together. This movie is more gory than many Thai flicks, It's off set by a great mood and stunning photography.
And what makes it even more interesting is the lead actress is a hugely famous singer in her country.
