Premise:
While looking at sharks in a cage, the wench breaks and the cage plummets to the ocean floor leaving two sisters inside with little oxygen and plenty of predators lurking around.

My Take:
The movie managed to keep the suspense cranked up and the situation fairly plausible.

A Cold Nights Death (1973)

Premise:
Two scientists head to an Artic research base after there is no communication from the previous team. They find the scientists frozen and the lab apes nearly dead. They stay to continue the research and slowly find out something else may be occurring.

My Take:
A movie that relies heavily on the two actors. It's a pleasure to watch Culp and Wallach chew up each scene. Not bad for a 70s made for television movie.

Capsule (2015)

Premise:
During the Cold War a British astronaut is sent on a solo space mission with limited contact to home base. As he gets farther into his mission the spacecraft starts to malfunction and he keeps receiving strange transmissions.

My Take:
A large part of the movie rests on the lead actor who does a fine job. While the movie is far from perfect the director does holds the tension together and works well in the confined budgets.

Blair Witch (2016)

Premise:
A young man finds evidence that his sister may still be alive after she went missing making a documentary on The Blair Witch fifteen years ago. Armed with the latest technology, a group of friends, and a pair of locals they head off into the Black Forest Hills. But they all soon regret what they find.

My Take:
This is more of a true sequel to the marketing tour de force original that basically created the found footage sub-genre. The movie takes awhile to get going and suffers from a few typical found footage flaws but final act is worth the wait.

Premise:

My Take:
The story and intensity sucks the viewer enough that one forgets it's short comings.

Sinister 2 (2015)

Premise:
Young mother and her sons move into a rural house marked by the demon Bhughul. A former cop who has seen the unexplained occurrences tries to help the family before death comes.

My Take:
Not a bad sequel that basically takes a new part of the story and ties it together with a character from the original. It definitely has its share of creepy moments.

Premise:
A money lender is killed by samurai and dumped in a river. Years later, the son of the samurai falls in love with the daughter of the lender. However, the spirit of the dead is not far away.

My Take:
The movie has many different genres thrown in mix. Part modern ghost/supernatural tale and part ancient samurai movie with a decent dose of drama mixed in. The whole things works as far as it meshes well together yet, for reason it could not keep my full attention.

Hitch-Hike (1977)

Premise:
A couple picks up a hitch hiker. He holds the couple hostage as he turns out to be a robber on the run from the police.

My Take:
High testosterone level in this flick as Nero and Hess chew up the screen playing off each other. And the script always me guessing. Human nature at it's worse is on display.

Black Night (2006)

Premise:
Three horror stories ("Next Door", "Dark Hole", "The Lost Memory") from three different Asian directors from three different countries in Asian.

My Take:
All three stories are watchable but nothing new. "The Lost Memory" is my favorite of the bunch as it hits all the right notes.

Death Laid An Egg (1968)

Premise:
Workers at a chicken farm are involved in a love triangle where the man also is a killer of prostitutes.

My Take:
An interesting film which doesn't piece things completely together. A husband and wife are both interested in their young secretary. The husband is also a bit deranged. He hires and murders prostitutes as the secretary keeps denying his advances. Also there farm is becoming more high tech and the need for workers becomes less. Strange accidents keep happening around the farm which former laborers are suspected. There is beautiful imagery from start to finish.

Rating: So Good
