Premise:
Season 12 sees the Winchester's try to rekindle a relationship with their mother who is back from the back, battle the British Men of Letters who want to exterminate the American Hunters, and track down the son of Lucifer.

My Take:
It's hard to believe this series is still going. I feel the show has slipped a bit over the last few seasons and anymore I keep watching because Sam and Dean feel like family. Honestly I didn't care much for this season overall and not sure I care where next year is headed. But I will keep watching.

Preacher, Season 1 (2016)

Starring: Dominic Cooper, Joseph Gilgun, Ruth Negga, Jackie Earle Haley, W. Earl Brown, Lucy Griffiths


Premise:
A preacher bonds with a the offspring of an angel and demon. He develops want he thinks is "the word of God", allowing him to control people. Angels come to retrieve the offspring and the preacher small, Texas town will never be the same.

My Take:
I found myself wanting to enjoy the series more than I did. Perhaps I just couldn't separate myself from the awesomeness of the Garth Ennis graphic novels. The entire first season felt like Jesse meandering about without a true purpose. The show also delegates Cassidy and Tulip as secondary characters instead of the mainstays they truly are to the story. The final episode gives me hope for a more interesting second season as the group leaves to find God.

Premise:
Season 11 has the Winchester battling an ancient force called The Darkness. This force wants to end the earth and all life on it.

My Take:
The show still manages to stay interesting with it's big ideas, going beyond Heaven vs Hell to the bigger God vs Darkness. And the always pleasant cast goes through the material with ease.

Supernatural, Season 10 ()

Premise:
Season 10 has the Winchesters and friends trying to find a way to get the Mark of Cain off of Dean's arm before it takes over and he becomes a killing machine. Along the way the find a Book of the Dead which contains powerful old world spells and an old world family wants it back in their possession.

My Take:
One if my favorite television shows over the past decade is starting to feel like it's getting past its expiration date. I think the show would benefit with less episodes and tighter focus on a seasonal story line. Still, I am with the Sam & Dean until they are canceled.

Supernatural, Season 9 (2014)

Starring: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins


Premise:
Two brothers fight supernatural beings, demons, and angels.

This season has the Winchester's becoming allies with Crowley in order to stop Abbadon from taking over Hell. The fallen angels start chooses different sides while Metatron watches and plans how to consolidate and become the new God. Castiel has lost his grace, becomes human, and searches for a way to become an angel again. Sam is on the verge of death and Dean puts a call out to the angels to help and gets possessed by Gaddrel, a disciple of Metatron who secretly sabotages the Winchester's plans. Dean gets the first blade, the most powerful weapon ever made, which starts to take control over him.  

My Take:
This was by far the worse season of the show. It was all over the place with little actual direction where it was heading. Though the season finale does give hope for a new and interesting restart.

Supernatural, Season 8 (2013)

Starring: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins


Premise:
Season 8 starts with Dean returning from Purgatory only to find Sam has walked away from life as a hunter. They find out Kevin, the prophet of the Lord, is in need of help and search for him. They discover two God tablets; one for the banishment of demons and the other for the banishment of angles. The King of Hell, Crowley and the Arc Angels are not pleased with the findings. Both want to stop the Winchesters.

My Take:
This season covered so much stuff that it often felt like the writers were just throwing things out to see what sticks. The first half dealt a lot with how Dean got out of Purgatory and why Sam decided to live a normal life. Then they find out about the demon tablet and Cass miraculously gets pulled from Purgatory. The second half has the brothers start the trials to rid the demons, find out their grandfather was part of a secret society called "The Men of Letters, they discover an angel tablet which Cass steals in order to protect it from the arc angels, and the appearance from the "Scribe of God" who has been in hiding. There is a lot crammed into the season and it doesn't work all the time. But once again the season finale pulls out all the stops and actually does a good job wrapping up all the loose ends and creating much intrigue for season 9.

Favorite Episode:
"LARP and The Real Girl" - Sam and Dean investigate strange deaths involved with a group of roll players and find an old friend leading the group. This is a classic Supernatural episode with all the staples the series is known for. Plus the lovely Felica Day returns.

11-11-11: The Prophecy (2011)

Starring: Timothy Gibbs, Michael Landes

Premise:
A successful novelist, grieving from the deaths of his wife and young son, goes to his home to see his dying father, a former priest. While there he finds out his brother, the current priest of the church, is getting death threats and the possibility of something sinister from the other side being responsible.

My Take:
The story was decent, yet fairly predictable. The actors were good. And it's a beautifully shot movie with a lot of German Expressionism feel with the dark shadows. But it just didn't come together for me in a positiver manner.
