Blood Beach (1980)

Starring: Burt Young, John Saxon, David Huffman, Marianna Hill
Director: Jeffrey Bloom

Premise:
There's something sucking people under the sand at a popular California beach.

My Take:
It's a hokey 80's horror movie that ends up being a tad enjoyable even though it's a bad.

Rating: Warning (but good fun)

Therapy (2016)

Starring: Nathalie Couturier, Remy Jobert,
Director: Nathan Ambrosioni

Premise:
Two detectives are following up on an investigation when they come across a piece of video evidence. The video shows a group of teens wandering into an abandoned house only to start disappearing. The detectives try to find out what happened to the group.

My Take:
The flick is part found footage slasher flick and part police procedural. The genres melt with mix results, mainly due to the editing that is jumping between the video and the "real time". Still the movie hold plenty of interest and surprises.

Premise:
The world is controlled by a few giant corporations. Either you work for them and have a good life or live in poverty. A young man finds a way to infiltrate the system and work for a company in order to find his love that signed away her life to the corporation years ago.

My Take:
The series has interesting enough ideas for what the future holds. The characters and their situations are all believable too.I found myself liking the series enough to watch all the first season but it has yet to really sink it's teeth into me.

Woman of Mud (2000)

Starring: Klaudia Koronel, Carlos Morales
Director: Rico Marie Ilardo

Premise:
A college student goes off to his uncle remote house in the jungle in attempts to write his first novel. He ends up finding a woman that emerges from a giant fruit who may not be as she appears either.

My Take:
A hot, naked woman covered in entrails spawns from a fruit and the first thing I would do is have sex with her. Why not... at least that's what the main characters does. Then it's all downhill from there as she's actually some sort of monster. My wife, who is Filipina, calls this a "sexy movie" as there are a couple of sex scenes and some boobs. Nothing too risque by American standards, but one doesn't see a lot of nudity in the Philippines cinema. It's worth a look if you are looking to round out your world view of horror movies.

Melancholia der Engel (2009)

AKA: The Angel's Melancholia

Starring: Zenzig Raggi, Frank Oliver
Director: Marian Dora

Premise:
A group of people gather in a country house where they precede to bring out the worst characters in each other

My Take:
German art house horror is the term that comes to mind. The running time for the movie is too long. There is some ghastly imagery throughout combined with a chopped up narrative but it's not enough to save it for me.

Emelie (2016)

Starring: Sarah Bolger
Director: Michael Thelin

Premise:
A last minute replacement babysitter ends up making the kids she's watching play twisted games for her amusement.

My Take:
I feel like the movie would have been better if went into full on bat shit crazy mode instead of riding the dramatic line. There are still a couple of very disturbing scenes which makes it worth the watch.

Daredevil, Season 2 (2016)

Starring: Charlie Cox, Elden Henson, Deborah Ann Woll, Jon Bernthal, Elodie Yung

Premise:
A vigilante killer called The Punisher is killing off bad guys and Daredevil wants to stop him. In the process an old girlfriend/fighter named Elektra re-enters his life. These two things help dissolve his legal practice with Foggy. To top it all off a secret organization called The Hand is revealed and they have plans to takeover the world.

My Take:
There's a lot happening in season 2. I enjoyed the Punisher story arc far better than introduction of Elektra and the emergence of the Hand. There's a lot of questions to be answered yet which will probably tie into upcoming The Defenders series.

Children of Sorrow (2012)

Starring: Bill Oberst Jr, Hannah Levien, Whitney Neilsen, Galen Howard,
Director: Jourdane McClure

Premise:
A woman infiltrates a cult in order to find her missing sister and instead falls under their spell.

My Take:
Another movie where the found footage concept does it no favors. Really little happens until the final act when the true motives of the cult leader are revealed. Then things get intense. For me, it was too little and too late by then.

Salem, Season 3 (2017)

Starring: Janet Montgomery, Shane West, Seth Gable, Tamzin Merchant, Ashley Madewe, Iddo Goldberg, Elise Eberle

Premise:
The final season has the devil trying to make Salem the spot where his reign of terror will begin. Witches and their Puritans continue to fight against each other while only a small amount know the real truth and try to stop the destruction.

My Take:
This season isn't really any different than the others. There is a lot of chaos, gore, and hypocrisy in many of it's characters. The writers throw a lot at the viewers but often I think important details are left out for you to piece together. The end result of the season, and the series itself, is an interesting yet unsatisfying watch.

Birdemic: Shock and Terror (2010)

Starring: Whitney Moore, Alan Baugh
Director: James Nguyen

Premise:
Mutated birds attack people in a California community.

My Take:
Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds this flick isn't, though it's a complete riff/homage of it. Nothing really happens until about half way through the movie, except cardboard acting and bad direction and terrible special effects. The all hell breaks loose but with eagles shooting fire but at this point you hope these people get obliterated and they stop being so preachy. I really cant tell if the movie is trying to be humorous or is just that bad.
