~Mind Blowing: Search for this movie immediately. It can only be described as pure greatness and possible an instant classic.

~So Good: Highly recommended because for one reason or another it stands out above the usual fair. Put the movie on your radar as it wont disappoint.

~In the Middle: The movie is a nothing special, average affair. It may entertain in the short term but it will be easily forgettable in the long haul.

~Warning: This movie is a cliched driven slop of familiar territory. Only watch if you're really of fan of this type of material.

~Steaming Pile: The movie is absolute garbage, a complete bore, and not worth the time or effort.

Shake, Rattle, and Roll 12 (2010)

Starring: Shina Magadayao, Ricky Davao, John Lapus, Andi Eigenmann, Rayver Cruz, Carla Abellana, Odette Khan, Sid Lucero
Director: Topel Lee, Zoren Legaspi, Jerrold Tarog

Premise:
Three tales of horror: a demon doll enters a mourning families household, a women falls prey to mythical undersea creature, and a pack of shapeshifters try to survive undetected in the city.

My Take:
Another installment of this powerhouse Filipino horror franchise is met with the usual troubles of an anthology tale... some stories are better than others. While I find all the legends of an other country to be interesting and the movie is well executed, none of them particularly stand out.

The Wave (2015)

Starring: Kristoffer Joner, Ane Dahl Torp

A mountain in rural Norway shifts which causes a massive inland tsunami that threatens the existence of the community it surrounds.

Blair Witch (2016)

Starring: James Allen McCune, Callie Hernandez, Valorie Curry, Brandon Scott, Wes Robinson, Corbin Reid
Director: Adam Wingard

Premise:
A young man finds evidence that his sister may still be alive after she went missing making a documentary on The Blair Witch fifteen years ago. Armed with the latest technology, a group of friends, and a pair of locals they head off into the Black Forest Hills. But they all soon regret what they find.

My Take:
This is more of a true sequel to the marketing tour de force original that basically created the found footage sub-genre. The movie takes awhile to get going and suffers from a few typical found footage flaws but final act is worth the wait.

Gut (2012)

Starring: Jason Vail, Nicholas Wilder, Sarah Schoofs
Director: Elias

Premise:
Two friends watch a movie that appears to be a snuff film. Neither can forget about it as the images effect their daily lives and starts to get too close to home lives.

My Take:
The movie is well done and hits on many of the right character notes but the direction the story takes is easily seen.

Rating: Warning (but not terrible)

Chiller, Season 1 (1995)

Starring: Sophie Ward, Nigel Havers, Phyllis Logan, Maggie O'Neill, Kevin McNally, John Simm

Premise:
An anthology series of horror tales.

My Take:
A decent series filled with familiar faces from the UK. Most episodes deal with people fears using a supernatural scope to tell the story.

Favorite Episode:
Prophecy - Years after a group of friends hold a seance the premonitions start coming true and each begin to have something horrible occur to them.

The Legend Still Lives: 30 Years of Madman (2010)

Starring: Gary Sales, Paul Ehlers, Harriet Bass,
Director: Victor Bonacore

Premise:
A look back on the making of the 80's slasher Madman.

My Take:
The movie Madman is often overlooked in the realm of 80's slasher flicks. It has gained a cult following over the years. The documentary has nifty tidbits but unless you are huge fan of the movie there is probably not much here for you. The majority of content comes form four or five people and the audio level inconsistencies get rather annoying.

Red Eye (2005)

AKA: Redeu-ai

Starring: Sgub-yeonbg Jang, Ji-min Kwak, Dong-kyu Lee
Director: Ding-bin Kim

Premise:
A new train is put on the same route as a train that had a horrible, fatal accident years ago. As the night goes on the stewardess start to notice strange occurrences and tries to stop the past and present from colliding.

My Take:
Pay close attention or you gonna end up confused. The movie blends past and present of the two trains (and passengers) to a somewhat unsatisfying ending.

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them (2016)

Starring: Eddie Redmayne, Katerine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Colin Farrell, Alison Sudol, Samantha Morton, Ezra Miller, Jon Voight
Director: David Yates

Premise:
A young wizard holding a suitcase containing magical creatures arrive in New York during the 20's and enters a battle between the unseen world and the normals.

My Take:
A spin off, prequel to the Harry Potter franchise the movie has it's charm and is much more of a darker narrative than I expected. Superb special effects are the hallmark of the film.

Darling (2015)

Starring: Lauren Ashley Carter, Sean Young, Brian Morvant
Director: Mickey Keating

Premise:
A young women is hired on as a caretaker of old house with a nasty reputation. The woman slowly descends into madness and falls victim to the whims of the house.

My Take:
A slow burning film without much gimmicks. The backstory of the house is set up and the lead actress takes over from there. And while the viewer can see where the story is headed it's done in excellent manner.

The Pack (2015)

Starring: Jack Campbell, Anna Lise Phillips, Katie Moore, Hamish Philipps
Director: Nick Robertson

Premise:
A family in a rural area are attacked by a pack of feral canines.

My Take:
The movie could have been so much better if not for the bad dialog (like an animal vet saying they've never heard of wild dogs) and characters doing asinine things.

Cabin Fever (2016)

Starring: Gage Golightly, Matthew Daddario, Samuel Davis, Nadine Crocker

Man Seeking Women, Season 3 (2016)

Starring: Jay Baruchel, Eric Andre, Britt Lower, Robin Duke, Mark McKinney, Kate Findlay

Premise:
A young man navigates the dating scene trying to find a real relationship.
In season three, Josh may have just found the one.

My Take:
The series continues to evolve with it's quirky, dark writing and scenarios as the main character continues to go through life's changes. It's a welcome change of pace to television landscape.

Your Vice Is A Locked Room And Only I Have The Key (1972)

Starring: Edwige Fenech, Anita Strindberg, Luigi Pistilli
Director: Sergio Martino

Premise:
Bodies start stacking up around a grieving, washed up writer writer and his wife.

My Take:
While it's not one of the best giallo's of the time period the movie is still worth a watch, if nothing else for the striking Edwige Fenech. There is not much to the mystery and is more just one red herring after another until the climax.

Lake Nowhere (2014)

Starring: Laura Hajek, Oscar Allen, Paul Joseph Gagnon, Melody Kology
Director: Christopher Phelps, Maxim Van Scoy

Premise:
Some one or some thing is killing off teenagers staying at a cabin in the woods.

My Take:
The movie throws a tad of everything at the viewer in a short time with a supernatural element to this slash throw back. The results are mixed and the ideas are not completely flushed out.

Director: Jean-Francois Richet

Premise:
A former biker ex-con is trying to live one day at a time. His estranged daughter shows up and is in trouble with the wrong people. The man will do anything to protect her.

My Take:
The movie is a fun ride with plenty action, redemption, and grit to keep an array of viewers pleased. This is Mel Gibson at his best.

Tenderness of the Wolves (1973)

Starring: Jyrt Raab
Director: Ulli Lommel

Premise:
A gay serial killer of teenage boys in 1920's Germany likes to drink their blood and sell the meat on the market. The police set a trap to catch the maniac.

My Take:
While the subject matter is quite disturbing, as well as more than a few scenes, it is never done in an exploitative way. Still it is a tough movie to set through until the end and one left this viewer with little satisfaction.

Slime City (1988)

Starring: Craig Saber, Mary Huner
Director: Gregory Lamberson

Premise:
A man moves into an apartment complex that is housed by witches trying to revive their coven master from the dead.

My Take:
The story is a little all over the place and the acting is pretty bad. However for it's budget, the special effects hold up well.
