Premise:
Three high school kids gain super telekinetic powers after finding a mysterious object buried in the ground. Each kid reacts differently to their newly found powers.

My Take:
A large chunk of the movie is filmed first person style which gets a little annoying. At the core of the story how these powers can corrupt, especially the loner kid with no friends and a bad home life. There's good special effects which helps make this an enjoyable film.

Someone's Knocking At My Door (2009)

Premise:
A group of medical students are being stalked by a serial murder rapist couple thought to have died years earlier.

My Take:
This is a film like you've probably never seen before. It oozes sex and gore; often graphically in the same scene. It's a twisted, sadistic head trip for 75 minutes before the ending wraps up in a neat, little package which has been seen many times over. And that's my biggest complaint.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012)

Premise:
After his mother mysteriously dies, a young Abraham Lincoln discovers a world few of vampires and makes it his true life work to kill them all.

My Take:
What was a very interesting and unique novel has been given the glossy Hollywood treatment complete with generic characters, big computer generated effects, and over the top action sequences. It's simply style over substance and if that's your thing, then great. But it's not mine.

Dexter, Season 7 (2012)

Starring: Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, James Remar, David Zayas, Lauren Valez, C.S. Lee, Desmond Harrington, Ray Stevenson, Yvonne Strahovski


Premise:
Season 7 turns up the tension as Deb attempts to come to terms with the fallout of knowing Dexter is a serial killer. Dexter attempts to find love in the arms of a female killer while a renegade Russian mob boss tries to take him out. And Captain LaGuerta starts getting dangerously close to putting all the pieces together of several past murders.

My Take:
This season was a slight improvment over season six. The whole Dexter and Deb love angle remains thick and I find it to be silly. We also see how Deb deals with knowing Dexter's secret. The highlight of the season was Ray Stevenson as the mob boss.
I think the series has ran its course as similar themes are constantly revisited. However, I will be right there next year for its supposedly final season.

Strippers vs Werewolves (2012)

Premise:
After their pack leader is accidentally killed in a strip club, a group of werewolf gangster rage war on the strippers who work there.

My Take:
A solid cast of familiar British faces cant save this mess of a movie. Most of the time it tries too hard to be funny and sexy but fails on both accounts. It certainly doesn't take itself seriously, but it should have just a tad.

Brain Dead (2007)

Premise:
A group of strangers finds themselves in a remote fishing cabin fighting off zombie-like humans infected by an alien slugs.

My Take:
A campy B movie with a familiar plot that is done surprising well. There's plenty of gore and funny one liners satisfy fans who simply want to be entertained and not think about their horror.

The Pact (2012)

Premise:
After the death of their mother and the sudden disappearance of her sister, a woman must come back to the house she grew up in to find out what happened.

My Take:
It's hard to have a movie surprise me anymore. I went into this thinking I sort of knew what it was about and was pleasantly surprised when it became so much more. We have sisters coming to terms with the death of their mother and their sketchy past. It becomes a creepy ass mystery in the guise of a ghost tale.

Student Bodies (1981)

Premise:
A serial killer starts murdering students at a high school.

My Take
I wont mix words. This is a bad movie. But I must give major credit to the for the writers nailing the parody aspect on the slasher subgenre so early during the 80's craze. I feel if the flick would have kept the more subtle comedy instead of the poor, over the top comedy then it would have been a much better watch.
