Premise:
A journalist manages to reconstruct a story about resurrecting the dead from an old typewriter ribbon. Soon a group of scientist hunt him down in attempt to prove the story true.

My Take:
The movie is a bit of trippy goodness. You are never quite sure what is real and what is not. And both of those qualities create a great atmosphere.
A very unique zombie flick.

The Empty Acre (2007)

Starring: Jennifer Plas, John Wilson

Premise:
A couple is dealing with their joys of a newborn baby while living on a farm in rural Kansas. The farm has a patch of ground where nothing grows and evil lurks. Things get strange after the couple's baby mysteriously disappears one night.

My Take:
The movie sort of reminded me of a Lovecraft tale set in middle America farming community. This is definitely a slow moving flick carried by the relationship of the couple and how they deal with their child's disappearance. It's pulled off admirably. For me, the ending could have been a bit better but its still a decent one to watch.

The Unwritten: Tommy Taylor & the Bogus Identity (vol. 1)

Premise:
Tommy Taylor's father wrote one of the most beloved fantasy series ever. One day his disappeared without a trace. Now Tommy lives off his father's past glory until one day a reporter claims he is not the son of the author. His world is suddenly thrown into shambles looking for the truth while a secret organization monitors him.

My Take:
There's a lot to enjoy about this comic, especially if you fond of classic novels. And this first volume sets up what is potentially a dense and layered tale.
With that said, I didn't really get attached to the characters and not certain I'll continue the series.

Darna Mana Hai (2003)

Premise:
After their car breaks down, a group of friends tells scary stories until help arrives.

My Take:
The wrap around story deals with the friends and each one getting killed off while other members are telling tales. The other stories include a college student who discovers he can freeze time, a man who checks into a non-smoking motel, a man who enjoys scaring his wife, a teacher gets freaked out by a student's homework, a driver picking up a mysterious hitchhiker, and a woman scared of apples. 
The stories are all decent but nothing spectacular.

Face Off, Season 3 (2012)

Starring: Ve Neill, Glenn Hetrick, Neville Page, McKenzie Westmore


Premise:
A contest where 12 special effect artists battle in an elimination challenge each week until there is a winner.

My Take:
I just like the show and enjoy watching talented people make cool creatures and make up effects.
The show had a lot more celebrity guest judges this year. And the big twist with this season was the viewers picked the winner out of the three finalists.

Some Guy Who Kills People (2012)

Starring: Kevin Corrigan, Barry Bostwick, Karen Black,
Director: Jack Perez

Premise:
A man recently released from the mental institution tries to get his life together by having a stable job and getting to know his estranged daughter. But when people start getting murdered the sheriff, who happens to be dating the man's mother, suspects he might be the killer.

My Take:
I enjoyed the movie a lot.
Corrigan is awesome, as usual, in the lead and the kid who plays his daughter shines too. But the scene stealer is Bostwick who cracks one liners constantly as he portrays the dopey but not stupid sheriff. Actually the entire cast is great and plays well with one another.
It's a fine script with plenty of charm, excellent direction, and even a tad of gore.

The Video Dead (1987)

Premise:
A television with a satanic curse unleashes zombies onto the a neighborhood.

My Take:
There's a lot of bad stuff in this flick, such as acting and linearity of the script. However, the story itself is original and there's are decent laughs. And for the budget, the make up/special effects are good.

The Car that Ate Paris (1974)

AKA: The Car That Eat People

Premise:
A small, rural town causes car wrecks as a mean to provide themselves with finances.

My Take:
Like a lot of the director's early films, this is an unsettling weird movie.
While most of the carnage is shown off screen, the viewer does see some aftermath. But this movie isn't about the blood. It's really about the town dynamic. Everyone in the town is in on the situation but many aren't happy with how the wealth is dispersed, especially the younger ones who decide to take a stand against the elders.
A truly unique flick.
