Premise:
A old detective saves a child from a murderer/rapist, who happens to be the son of a powerful senator. The senator makes the detective pay by keeping him locked up for eight years and trying to beat a confession out of him. The detective finally escapes and tries to save the now grown up girl from danger once again.

My Take:
Another volume filled with grit and grim known in the Sin City series. Great artwork and great story (much of which was seen in the first Sin City movie).

Rating: Instant Classic

Premise:
Desert ants start to show extra intelligence and wage war on mankind. Two scientists are tasked with trying to find a way to stop them.

My Take:
An interesting premise which basically uses a laboratory as a setting, which hinders the story a bit.

Rating: In the middle

The Rover (2014)

Starring: Guy Pearce, Robert Pattinson, Scott McNairy, David Field

Premise:
A group of robbers steal a man's car and with the help of one of the wounded men left behind, he starts a pursuit to re-obtain is possession.

My Take:
This is a gritty, nihilistic film with throwbacks to a Western. The movie looks amazing with the rugged Australian Outback in nearly every scene. The cast is great too, I was actually with Pattinson's take on his character. A solid film.

Killer Contact, Season 1 (2014)

Starring: Austin Cook,


Premise:
A group of paranormal investigator tackle some of the biggest mysteries in history from a different perspective.

My Take:
I liked the mysteries the show tackled (Vlad the Impaler, The Hellfire Club, Jack the Ripper, The Mayan Empire, Lucrezia Borgia, and teh Butcher of Iquique). Unfortunately that is where the praise ends. Each episode follows the same format and feels very staged. Just because you get some hits on electric gadgets does not mean contact has been made.

Rating: Warning (big time)

Premise:
A man goes search a small town for his missing brother and discovers there may be a sinister force at work.

My Take:
A horror fan cant go wrong with Karloff and Lee in significant roles. The story is a little average but it's also kind of trippy.

Dick Night (2011)

Premise:
A woman is still depressed months after being left at the alter. She finally decides to get back on the dating scene and asks a man over to her house. Except this turns into the night her home gets attacked by vampires

My Take:
Dont let the silly title keep you away from this slick movie. It's mostly a funny, sort of romantic comedy which turns into a home siege movie in the final act with kids who think they are vampires. But it is also very clever with it's dialog.

Rating: So Good

Alien Apocalypse (2005)

Premise:
A group of astronaut return to Earth only to find out it has been taken over by aliens. One of the astronauts decides to make a stand a save humanity.

My Take:
Bruce Campbell is gold, as always, and the script is rather silly. It's a throwback to the sci-fi flicks of the 50's.

Rating: Warning (but kind of fun)

Letter From the Big Man (2011)

Premise:
A government worker surveys part of the Oregon wilderness after a fire. She encounters a sasquatch and becomes enamored with the creature as it tries to communicate with her.

My Take:
First off, this is not a horror movie. It does depict one of the lesser explored theories of the Bigfoot's myth.

Rating: In the middle
